With leather, polka dots, and pizzazz, the RockabillyNats Pinup Competition is all set to bring Grease and glamour to Rare Spares Rockynats in 2023. After a wildly successful launch in 2022, this year’s competition is already bigger than last, with new participants registering every week.

For Mercury Lien, the 2022 RockabillyNats winner, RockabillyNats is the perfect expression of multiple hobbies - modelling and cars. Mercury says that the RockybillyNats Pinup Competition is the perfect way to represent her community, herself and a love for modelling.

“Competing in 2022 was an amazing experience, and I made so many friends. I loved being myself on stage and strutting my stuff. I would encourage anyone interested in trying – after it’s done you’ll feel so empowered. I’ve never met someone that didn't come off the stage absolutely beaming.”

Competition host Cherry Bombshell says that the RockabillyNats Pinup Competition is about individuality, fun, and the opportunity to embrace inner creativity and flare.

“Modern pinup combines the romanticism of the 1940-60s style with modern day values. These competitions offer an opportunity for participants to meet like-minded individuals and make life-long friendships.”

“I've always felt at home amongst the pinup community, because even though our styles may differ, the community as a whole aims to support everybody, regardless of their size, gender, or style. We hope to encourage a new generation of performers who are comfortable and encouraged as their beautiful, flamboyant, eccentric, creative, authentic and kind selves,” said Cherry.

A new ‘Evening Glamour’ category has been included in the 2023 competition line-up, giving finalists another chance to show off their unique style. Those new to the world of pageant competitions can dip their toes in with the first ever Atomic-Cut Throat Beginners Pageant. This informal catwalk will give participants the chance to try their hand at modelling in a safe setting with lower stakes and enthusiastic encouragement.

Support for the pageant is unanimous. Mayor Tony Williams says that the RockabillyNats competition is another way to get the community involved at Rockynats.

“Off-track events like this add exciting elements to the Rockynats program and encourage even more people to make the trip to Rockhampton. As part of the extensive Showgrounds program at this year’s event, the RockabillyNats competition is family-friendly fun.”

Anyone over 18 is welcome to take part in the 2023 RockabillyNats competition. Entrants must submit two photos that reflect their best ‘RockabillyNats’ style via the form on the Rockynats website. Entries remain open until March 10th, and the top 10 finalists will be announced on March 13th.

Finalists will then have the opportunity to compete for the RockabillyNats title at the Rockynats Showgrounds Precinct on Friday April 7, with a host of cash and prizes on offer. Enter today at www.rockynats.com.au/pinup
