Immerse yourself in the Full Rockynats Experience with On-Site Camping

Why just attend Rare Spares Rockynats when you can live it by camping right in the heart of the action? Rockynats’ Tent City, located at the Rockhampton Brothers Cricket Club, offers the perfect blend of convenience, community, and security for those looking to fully embrace the Rockynats 05 experience. With prices starting from just over $200 for a 6x6m site to camp for 6 days (1 April – 7 April), it’s also an affordable solution for those who are yet to secure any accommodation for the event.

Situated directly opposite the Rockhampton Showgrounds, the largest of the event’s three precincts, 1.7km from the Drifting Precinct and 2km from the heart of the Rockhampton CBD, Tent City puts you right in the middle of all the action; a convenient inner-city accommodation option that eliminates the need to find parking or driving to each location.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said it’s the convenience and affordability of the camping experience at Rockynats that is making it an increasingly popular accommodation option among entrants and spectators alike.

“Tent City provides so much more than just an accommodation option. It’s convenient, it’s secure, it’s affordable and it allows people to simply enjoy the camaraderie of being surrounded by people who love Rockynats as much as you do,” Mayor Williams said. “It’s no wonder it’s becoming so popular and it’s something Rockhampton Regional Council are proud to provide each year.”

Ipswich-based burnout driver, Craig Meston, who will be attending his 4thRockynats with his 1986 Holden VK Commodore PINKY, is a huge advocate for camping due to the full festival experience it offers, along with the accessibility and peace of mind that comes with staying in such a central location.

“We’ve stayed in a house in the past, but this will be our third time in Tent City, and you just can’t beat how central it is to everything and how it truly immerses you in the full atmosphere,” Mr Meston said. “You’re right next to the scrutineering shed, which makes the check in process super easy and you’re just across from the Showgrounds so you can walk to the live concerts each night and the final awards presentation. We can also walk to any event we want to watch throughout the day, or into the CBD for dinner at night and it’s only a short drive to take our cars to the burnout competition each day.”

Mr Meston explains that the benefits of camping don’t just stop at the convenience, with the connection and sense of community that come with staying in Tent City being one of the key reasons he and his wife return to Rockynats year after year.

“We make the trip up from Brisbane with 10-15 other people and 4-5 cars each year and book three large camping sites all together. You can chat, relax and have a BBQ at the end of the day and it becomes so much more than just a car event,” he says. “You’re also camping around other entrants, giving you the chance to make friends from all over the country. It’s become something we really look forward to as you know you’ll get to catch up with people you only get to see at Rockynats once a year.”

The family-friendly atmosphere, campsite amenities and 24/7 security are among other highlights for the Meston family, who will be camping with their six-month-old daughter for the first time at Rockynats 05.

“There’s 24/7 security at the gate so you know your car and your gear is always protected, there’s great amenities for the whole family and even a coffee van in the mornings to kick start the day. We can’t wait to bring our daughter along this year to experience it all.”

Accommodation at Tent City is available for both spectators and entrants for up to six nights, checking in from 11am, Tuesday 1 April and checking out from Monday 7 April 2025, with a three camping site sizes available. You can also hire tents, along with key camping equipment like chairs, sleeping bags and esky’s when purchasing your camping passes.
